Our founder Eduardo’s surrogacy journey
Nordic Surrogacy was founded in 2016 by Eduardo Afonso, father of Zelda and Esther. After his dream of becoming a father came true with the help of a surrogate, a new goal was born – to help others create their families. Today, Nordic Surrogacy consists of a dedicated team of nearly 20 employees, all with the same goal: to make your dream of becoming a parent come true.
A personal letter to all of you who dream of becoming a parent
“My biggest dream has always been to become a parent. A few years ago, my dream became a reality. As a single parent, I got help from a surrogate in Thailand and in 2014 my twins Esther and Zelda were born. With them, the idea of helping others was born.
The road to parenthood was long and fraught with linguistic, cultural and legal challenges. Finding my way through the jungle of clinics, agencies, authorities and others who wanted to help me was by far the biggest challenge. I was given different information by different stakeholders. It is quite easy to get lost when you are dealing with doctors, lawyers and authorities in foreign countries all on your own, without experience or expertise.
At times, my journey felt extremely lonely. But I knew that this was not the case. Many singles and couples go through exactly the same journey when surrogacy is the only option to become a parent. But I wanted to spare other intended parents that feeling of helplessness and loneliness that I experienced. So my new mission in life was to help other involuntary childless people to have a safe and peaceful family, in contrast to my own experience.
At the time, I was a partner in a business. I sold the company to be able to invest wholeheartedly in Nordic Surrogacy. That, besides starting the journey that gave me my wonderful girls, is the best decision I made in my life. Today we help hundreds of parents-to-be all over the world and it feels really amazing.
Early on, I realized how important it is to work with well-established partners. I wanted to be sure that the rights of the parties involved were protected to ensure safety for everyone. That’s why I started Nordic Surrogacy. All the clinics that Nordic Surrogacy works with are carefully selected based on competence and reputation.

What is surrogacy?
Surrogacy involves a woman carrying and giving birth to a child for someone else. Most commonly, the child is biologically that of the intended parents or, alternatively, the egg or sperm is donated by a third party.
