Meet Marina, a woman with a mission to help the involuntarily childless
In October 2017, Eduardo, the founder of Tammuz Nordic, visited Ukraine to meet with Marina. She is determined to help involuntarily childless to have children. When we meet Marina, she is in a pregnancy for a few months. Listen her own story here.
Hundreds of prospective parents
Over the past ten years, we have followed hundreds of prospective parents on their journey to becoming parents. We are aware that the economic barriers can be high. We made the investment ourselves, when we went from intendend parent to parent. That’s precisely why Tammuz offers a variety of surrogate programs in different countries. Tammuz works with high privacy, high integrity and respect for all involved in the process of all our programs.
All our programs are done in collaboration with well-qualified doctors, state-of-the-art clinics using innovative technologies. We have a large selection of egg donors, IVF with ICSI, carefully matched surrogate mothers, legal support, warranties and insurance, as well as personalized service and support.
Surrogacy step by step
The surrogate process is fantastic, challenging and the wildest journey you will make. We certainly know. We are all parents by surrogacy. We also have helped hundreds of prospective parents through their trip. So we know what you are going through and we are here by your side through each step.
Through our international partner organizations we can offer a variety of complete options to suit every man and woman who dream of children; from choosing an egg donor, surrogate, medical assistance, legal support to help find the best insurance.
But what’s included in the journey? And in which order does everything happen? Each trip is unique. It varies depending on the needs of prospective parents. Some prospective parents need egg donation, while others use their own eggs.
Having said that, we’ll take you through the trip, step by step.
1. You choose surrogate programs based on your individual circumstances
This is the beginning of the journey. We go through the process step by step, what opportunities you have programs are chosen and a schedule takes shape.
2. Fertility check, use of own eggs or egg donor
To know if your own eggs can be used or if egg donor is needed, a fertility check is done, checking both the quality of the egg and the sperm.
– Use of own eggs – IVF
– Egg donation – Egg donor selection
3. Matching with surrogate mother
A special step on the journey. The surrogate mother is the woman who helps you fulfill your dream of parenting. All Tammuz surrogate mothers are approved according to the country’s current laws and have undergone screening, medical and psychological tests and preparation for the process. Based on many years of experience, we will be able to assist with a surrogate matching according to your needs and wishes. How it goes into detail depends on which program is selected.
4. Fertility and embryo
After having given sperm and selected a donor / donated egg, the IVF procedure will take place in a fertility clinic according to your surrogate program. The fertilized egg develops in the laboratory in most cases for 4-5 days – until the blastocyst stage. Embryos that reach this stage will pass the PGS / CGH test. Genetic testing of the embryo occurs before implantation of the uterus. The purpose of the test is to determine embryos before transplanting into the uterus to prevent certain types of anomalies and syndrome, including Down’s Syndrome, Cystic Fibrosis, Tay Sacks and more. For the analysis, a number of cells are taken from each embryo undergoing a biopsy. The test also gives information about which gender it is.
5. Embryo transfer
Before the date of transfer of embryo can be determined, the surrogate mother must undergo the same tests at the time of application. This is to ensure that no new prerequisite exists. Following a review, the surrogate will begin treatment for embryo treatment. The treatment is approximately 1 month long and consists of 4 visits to the clinic.
About 2 weeks after embryo transfer, a blood sample is made to see if there is an ”abnormal” increase of hormones. If there has been an increase, she is probably pregnant, to confirm this, an ultrasound is planned. In accordance with the parents’ wishes and with the approval of the surrogate mother, one or two embryos are implanted, the remaining is frozen for future needs. In homosexual fathers, there is the possibility of transplanting an embryo from each of the fathers to attempt to produce a twin pregnancy where each child has a genetic link to one of the parents. Transfers take place 3 – 5 days after fertilization.
Two weeks after IVF and embryo transfer, it will be reported if the surrogate has become pregnant using blood tests. If this has not been done, the process of transfer will repeat again.
6. Surrogate mother during pregnancy until childbirth
Once it is confirmed that the surrogate mother is pregnant, maternity care is activated for the surrogate mother. A pregnancy plan is established which is everyone’s common map through the pregnancy. The plan includes planned health surveys, reconciliation with the surrogate and other milestones. The prospective parents will receive continuous photos and reports from ultrasound during about 2 weeks between the visits. The birth is done at the designated clinic for the chosen program and you as a prospective parent are in place.
The United States Surrogacy Program – Western Fertility is responsible for ongoing research and ultrasound through partner clinics because the surrogate mother lives in one of 29 different states where it is legal with surrogate.
Ukraine Surrogacy Program – Ongoing surveys and ultrasound are performed at the Nadiya clinic in Kiev
Albania – Ongoing surveys and ultrasound performed at the Fertility Center in Tirana.
7. Birth, preparation of birth certificate and return
Finally! After birth, a birth certificate is written to get the child home. DNA testing is required to confirm paternity and via the District Court in Sweden determine paternity. Once this has been determined, parents can apply for a passport. At home, the child is registered in Sweden and childcare processes begin. During this administrative and legal process, Tammuz is of course on your side with both our experience and legal competence to guide you in both legal and practical perspectives.
